This calls for pajamas, fluffy friends, cozy blankets, hot chocolate and treats. Oh! And watching Ms. Spinks’ all time FAVORITE Christmas movie, Annabelle’s Wish.
We also wrapped a few gifts for our parents, had a picnic lunch in the classroom, and ate Santa’s sleigh. 😱

Storytime
It is so exciting to have a parent come in and read stories to us all!!!
Origami
When your reading group reads a book that talks about origami and making paper swans and paper boats, you want to learn how to do that. Ms. Spinks doesn’t know how to do that so she asks Mr. Dawson to come in and teach us.
A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving
Today we had a fun day. We watched A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. We talked about gratitude and how Peppermint Patty didn’t do a good job of showing gratitude. We talked about the characters, setting, problem and solution. We then sorted pictures of nouns from the video. The best part was our Snoopy Thanksgiving Feast for snack. We had air-popped popcorn, pretzels, apple fritter breakfast bread and jellybeans. We loved the popcorn and begged Ms. Spinks for more during our second snack.
A Haunted Forest
Oh no! When we got to school today, our Enchanted Forest was HAUNTED!!! We all turned into Zombies. Whew! I’m glad we were still able to learn.

Sparkles Field Trip
Wednesday, October 27, 2021
Thank you all for a great conference week. I am so excited that I was able to meet with parents for every student. I was able to show off some of the amazing work of our OWLs. Every day I fall in love with this class a little more. They are so full of questions and ideas. They make learning and teaching fun.
We are off to a great start for the 2nd quarter. In math we are learning all about tens and ones in two digit numbers. (Don't tell any other first grade classes, but we have looked at hundreds, too.). In phonics we are learining to read and spell words with a silent e to make long vowels. In reading we are starting to explore the features of non-fiction text. We are also beginning to write informational paragaphs. We started by researching all about Owls, and will write about them next week. Then we will learn all about Turkeys and Reindeer. In science we are learning all about sound, light and shadows. Social studies has us learning about Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson and comparing their lives to ours.
Our field trip to Sparkles skating rink was a complete blast! We did some STEM activities with sound and light. We used a slinky to see the diference between light waves and sound waves. We listened to different frequencues to see if we could hear them. As we get older we can't hear as high of a frequency. Ms. Spinks really showed her age!! (Maybe she should get a hearing aid). We then used a balloon to make a light bulb light up. We got to roller skate. We had so much fun wobbling, gliding, falling, getting back up and trying again. Some of us were adventurous and tried skating without the use of a "skate mate." Some of us chose to skate on the carpet most of the time. Everyone had fun and wanted to do it again. The indoor playground was a lot of fun, too! We were so tired, many of us were close to falling asleep on the way home.
Remember that next Tuesday, November 2, is election day. This is a student holiday while teachers have a work day.
Information about the Cheatham Hill Turkey Trot is coming home soon. Everyone who participates earns points for our class. The class with the most points wins an ice cream party. I challenge you to put it on your calendar so we can win.

Champion Spirit Week
Tuesday, August 3, 2021
We are off to a great start! Ms. Spinks was even brave enough to do a STEM project with us. Be sure to check out the pictures she took on the "Photos" page.
Thank you for sending in TWO snacks for your child. Our lunch is so late, we start getting hungry. If your child ever forgets a snack, have no worries. I try to keep a hidden stash just in case. Thank you so much to Michael's mom for sending in some extras for our stash.
Just like last year, the water bottle filling stations are the only sources of water, so water bottles are certainly necessary. So far students are doing a great job with their water bottles. If it easier on you, they are welcome to leave them at school in their "water bottle parking lot." Fridays are "Water Bottle Wash Days," so I make sure they all go home that day. If your child everr looses or forgets their water bottle, no worries. I drink a lot of bottled water, so I always have some for emergencies.
Daily communication folders will start going home tomorrow. Please use this folder for any notes you need to send me. Please remember changes in transportation must be a written note. I cannot use email for transportation changes although you are welcome to use it as a back-up to make sure I get it. Concernng emails, students go to specials at 11:00. Quite often that is the first chance I get to even see and respond to emails.

Monsters in School!
We read a story about the monster who came to school and needed to learn the rules. We wrote and illustrated some rules the monster needs to learn. Then Ms.Spinks let us make a big mess as we created monsters. It was so much fun. WHAT A CREATIVE class we are!!!

The First Day of School!
We did some dancing and drew a self-portrait of our first day. We made it the whole day without any tears. In fact, Ms. Spinks thought the day was great and hopes the students did too!!

Sneak-A-Peek
We came to sneak a peek at our new classroom and meet our new teacher, Ms. Spinks. She made us smile for the camera.
