We made it to the LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! This year I am more than ready to say good-bye to digital learning. I am not ready to say good-bye to all of you! I have loved being your teacher, and I have loved being your student. You are an amazing group of kids. I already miss you, but will miss you even more over the summer.
Today we are celebrating you. We will have our last Zoom meeting at 11:00. Today is first grade pajama day, so wear your pajamas and bring a stuffed friend. We are having a dance party to celebrate. The invitation for the Zoom party has been emailed to you.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
If your student has medications in the clinic, they will be returned Monday, May 18th from 9:00 AM to 12 PM and Tuesday, May 19th from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Just 3 more days of school. It is so hard to believe we have reached the end of our time together in first grade. I hope everyone was able to pick up their bags of belongings. If not, there is a time to get them on Monday. If you were not able to get them, please let me know and I will work something out with you individually.
I want to give you a head’s up for next week. The first grade teachers do have plans prepared for the last 3 days as we remember our year and look forward towards summer. We will have a short zoom meeting Monday at 2:00 to share some of our memories. We will also have a last day zoom celebration dance party on Wednesday at 11:00. Next week you will receive an email with the invitation links.
Remember to email me a memory or advice you have for Mrs. Hooper. I hope to finish her book and meet with her sometime next week.
Hopefully we can find some time this summer (probably in July) to have a final get together where we can say our “see you laters” in person.
Have a great weekend.

I hope you all enjoyed your lesson with Mrs. Ralph yesterday. Mrs. Hooper and I enjoyed seeing your drawings and chatting with you. Thank you all for the most generous gifts and beautiful flowers. You have made us feel so special. We love you all and hate to see this school year end. Hopefully this summer we can have a class get together to celebrate your first grade year.
Today I am in the classroom packing it up for the summer. We will not have any Zoom meetings today. Please send me an email with your message for Mrs. Hooper - a favorite memory or advice (or both). I am just missing messages from 4 students.
The bags I packed of all the items you left are ready for pick-up on Friday. The bags have a special surprise for each of you, so if you are unable to pick it up, please let me know. I will make other arrangements for you to get your items.

We will have a Zoom meeting today at 1:00. An email was sent in an email last night. I hope everyone can join us to see who is the mystery guest? Have paper and pencil ready. I will be on a bit early to give everyone time to get logged on and chat before our lesson begins.
Wednesday I will be in the classroom packing everything up so it can be cleaned over the summer. This week's theme is virtual field trips, and I know Mrs. Costello had to change her meeting day. With all that is going on, this will be our only Zoom meeting this week.
This Friday, May 15, student items will be made available for pick-up. See email from Dr. Carpenter with procedures and times. With everyone's stuff, I have included a special surprise, so I hope you will be able to pick them up. If you are not able to, please contact me so we can make other arrangements.
Remember to email me either a favorite memory of Mrs. Hooper, or advice to help her be a great teacher next year. You are welcome to send both. If you choose to hand write it, take a picture and email me. I know she will cherish them for many years.

It's our last full week of school. What a crazy year this has been. It's so hard to believe we have made it to the end of the year. We will have a Zoom meeting Tuesday at 1:00. We have a special guest teacher stopping by. You don't want to miss it!
Check HERE for a special edition of the Cheatham Hill Morning Announcements.
Dear Families,
This week the digital plans look a little different. We thought it would be fun to take some virtual field trips. We planned lessons around our trips and tried to keep them shorter.
We have included some assessments that are for you to use to get an idea of what your child can do at this time.
We have included an assessment for math fluency (computation), problem solving and graphing.
We have included reading passages on Level G, H, I, and J. (First graders are expected to read independently on a Level I with 95% accuracy in word calling and be able to retell the story including the character, setting, the beginning, middle and end)
We have also included rubrics to check their writing.
We hope this will be helpful to you. It is optional and is not intended for us to assign a grade.

We will have a Zoom class meeting today at 1:30. I have some announcements, and I have a quick review activity. This is Mrs. Hooper's last official day with us. That means she has to answer all of your questions. An email with the link will be emailed to you.
Yesterday Mrs. Hooper did a great Mother's Day Craft during her Zoom lesson. If you are interested in doing it too, go HERE for a step-by-step video.
Thank you all for your quick responses to all of my emails. I still have a few unclaimed clothing items. Remember to send me advice you want to give Mrs. Hooper as she starts her teaching career. You can send me a picture of your advice or type it in an email.
A Note From Mrs. Ralph
Dear Parents,
I first want to say, thank you for continuing to inspire your kid(s) each day to laugh, create, and just have fun with Art!!!! I’ve zoomed in to many of the classes and have heard about some of your wonderful creations and ideas. Oh, how I so miss the kids, the paint, and even the messes!
News About Art work and projects
If you have any further questions/concerns, please feel free to email me. Have a wonderful summer!

News About Art work and projects
- Art Show Art Work - On May 4th, the Art company reopened and they are scheduled to deliver all post ordered frames, reproductions, and ALL of the unsold art work to me on Friday, May 8th. This means that I WILL be able to get all of it to the homeroom teachers and they can put these items with your child’s belongings.
- Any unfinished artwork and drawings in the art room have already been placed in the homeroom teachers’ boxes. These items will be put with your child’s belongings.
- Pottery – Unfortunately, our pottery didn’t fare too well over the closing of the school. With the lack air circulation, as well as, not being glazed nor fired in the kiln, a lot of our pottery molded, became extremely fragile, and/or crumbled. For our kids’ health and safety, all of the clay projects had to be thrown away. This decision was heart-wrenching and not one that we took lightly, but was best for everyone’s overall health.
If you have any further questions/concerns, please feel free to email me. Have a wonderful summer!

Welcome to another week of distant learning. This is Mr.s Hooper's last full Official week with us, but hopefully we can convince her to stay with us until the end. This week we will have 3 Zoom meetings. On Tuesday I have to take Allen to pick up his cap and gown at 1:00 (Hip, Hip, Hooray!), so we will need to have our zoom meeting at 2:00. On Wednesday, our 1:30 meeting will be for students who do not go to Mrs. Costello. Thursday we will have a short meeting at 1:30. Details for the meetings will be emailed.
The weather is getting warmer, so I hope you will enjoy some time outside. This week the Cheatham Hill Specialists have created a Virtual Field Day. The activities look like so much fun. I look forward to seeing your pictures.
Below is this week's first grade learning plan. Reminder: I am waiting on just 7 more pictures of students wearing their t-shirt.

Today we are going to do something a little different for our class meeting. We will not have an actual “lesson.” Mrs. Hooper and I have talked about how much you are probably missing each other, so our Zoom will be a time for you to socialize and share with each other. We have set up 2 different meetings. One is for the girls and the other is for the boys. Mrs. Hooper and I will be on monitoring and making sure everyone is playing nice. This is like a virtual indoor recess where you get to talk with your friends. An email with links to the meetings was sent yesterday afternoon. If you need me to resend, please do so.
During our Wednesday class meeting, Mrs. Hooper read the book Why We Stay Home: Suzie Learns About Coronavirus by Samantha Harris and Devon Scott . Go HERE if you want to read it yourself. For your "response to literature" draw a picture to show things you are doing to stay healthy. Write a sentence or two explaining your picture. Make a picture of it and email it to us.

I am running late today. Last night my two kitties came home from the vet where they had surgery. This morning they were wanting lots of snuggles and sympathy.
I hope everyone is having a great week. I loved our Zoom meeting yesterday as we practiced being scientists. Today's meeting will be Mrs. Hooper facilitating a reading activity for those students who do not have a meeting with Mrs. Costello. An email was sent out with the invitation. For those of you who will be with Mrs. Costello, you can go HERE for a link to the book Mrs. Hooper will be using.
Tomorrow I will be hosting a Zoom "recess" at 1:00. I will be there to interact with students, but I won't be doing a formal lesson. This will be a time for everyone to chat with each other. I know we are missing seeing each other and hearing about our goings on. I will have a little structure at first to make sure everyone gets a chance to speak, but then will leave it open for students to share with each other. You are welcome to come or go at your convenience. An email with the link to the meeting will go out tomorrow morning.
Reminder: Please send me a picture of you wearing your class t-shirt. I am just missing 8 people.

Check HERE for the Cheatham Hill Morning Announcements. Today's announcements are brought to you by the family of our classroom next-door neighbor, Mrs. Bishop.
I don't know about you, but the storms this morning had me hunkered in my bed not wanting to get out. I am not a fan of thunder. My cats don't like it either. During a storm they growl at the windows.
We have a class lesson today at 1:30 on Zoom. The invitation and link will be emailed to you. Please have paper and a pencil handy for the lesson. Remember that Mrs. Hooper's professor will be joining us.
Below is the final assessment follow-up for Mrs. Hooper's Zoom lesson. Remember the learning target was using strategies to solve addition problems. Be sure to show your work in order to show your understanding of the strategy.

- THURSDAY—We are continuing to celebrate National Library Week! Our challenge today is to get to know our new e-book resource called Sora – explore the many titles and “check-out” a book to read!
1) Visit our digital library again at: http://www.cobbdigitallibrary.com
2) Login (username is your FirstName.LastName and secret network password) and click on Databases on the left menu.
3) Scroll down to Sora - easy access to e-books and audiobooks on your computer, tablet, or phone. (It may ask you to login more than one time.)
4) Click on Explore (near the bottom) or Collections (middle right) to find a title you like. If the book you want is checked out, it will give you an option to put it on hold.

We have made it through another week of distant learning. You all have been busy making me proud. I LOVE the virtual classroom meetings when I get to hear all of your stories and see your beautiful smiles.
Today is a day to catch your breath and catch up on your work. It's also FUN FRIDAY!
Below are some ideas you can do to have fun. They are just suggestions and not required. If you choose to do any of them, remember to email me some pictures.

Today we will have a Zoom class at 1:30. The link will be emailed to you. I will enter the meeting early so you can get on, and we can chat. At 1:30 Mrs. Hooper will say, "Give Me 5" and start her lesson. We should be finished by 2:00. I look forward to seeing you and seeing what Mrs. Hooper has prepared for us.
Go HERE for this week's Ask Greg.
Below is a short assessment to follow-up with Mrs. Hooper's lesson. She needs copies of your answers for her university class. You can print it, or you can write your answers on a blank paper. Remember to show your work and circle your answer. She needs it back by Next Wednesday, April 22, 2020.
You can scan it or take a picture of it and email it to us: [email protected] and [email protected]
Next Thursday at 1:30 we will have another short Zoom lesson just like the one we had today. She will use your assessments to develop that lesson.
You all are doing an amazing job with the video lessons and digital learning. I wish we were all together, but the video classes are an ok alternative. We will continue to have our Tuesday class Teams meetings/circle time at 1:00.
Remember that Fridays are a time for you to catch up and catch your breath. No new lessons or assignments will be given. I will post some "just for fun" activities in case you are getting bored and need some new ideas.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as are able to join us today at 1:00. An email was sent with the link to our video class meeting using Microsoft Teams. We will chat as everyone gets logged on, and then begin our meeting around 1:10. At that time, I will mute you all. I will give you some announcements, and then call on you one at a time to un-mute and share with us all. With Microsoft teams, you can only see four people at one time, so please remember to show good OWL behavior and listen as someone is talking so you can see them.
I have received numerous emails about how to log onto Freckle. The easiest way if for you to go through Clever.com. Once you log into Clever, all of the Cobb County links are there and will automatically log you into your account.
While you are working on your distance learning this week, have someone take your picture and send it to me. I love seeing what you are doing.
YOU ALL DID AMAZING IN OUR VIDEO CHAT TODAY! Thank you so much for taking turns and being respectful to each other. That is what makes our class so very special. I loved having the chance to see everyone's faces and smiles. You all rock!!

Welcome Back to digital learning. I hope your Spring Break was relaxing and full of great family memories. Below is this week’s digital learning plan. Cobb County has adopted a Monday-Thursday lesson format leaving Friday for time to review or catch-up.
We will have a virtual meeting using Teams on Tuesday at 1:00. I will send the link and instructions in the morning. Mrs. Hooper is not able to join us tomorrow, so we will use it as a time to reconnect and share about your Spring Break and Easter. It will also be the students’ time to ask me questions. Parents are welcome to email me at anytime. We will also try to have a virtual meeting on Thursday so Mrs. Hooper can do a lesson. More information about that will be shared tomorrow.

Today's CHES Spirit Day is "Fun Friday" -Have some fun as a family: build a fort, play a game, pay I Spy on a walk, or have a dance party. I found a website called Primary Playground. It has fun scavenger hunts for you to do while you are at home. I've posted some of them below.
Yesterday, I had a chance to go into our classroom to pick up a few things. It was lonely being there without all of you. The carpets were rolled up and the chairs were stacked so Ms. Eva could clean it. My time there was full of happy memories that put a smile on my face for the rest of the day, and helped me to remember that "Our Future is Bright." I miss you all and look forward to the time when we do get to be together again.

Yesterday's news about school closing for the rest of the year has me so sad. I miss you all so very, very much! I do not have any information about how the rest of the year is going to play out. As soon as I know anything, I will let you know. In the meantime, we will continue to have weekly video meetings. I can also promise you that as soon as possible I will make sure we have t a chance to get together and celebrate the time we did spend together.
Today's CHES Spirit Day is " Team Thursday" - Show your Team Spirit and wear your favorite uniform or jersey, reach out to a teammate or coach virtually, or do a practice warm-up. (Georgia Bulldog shirts for the win)
Make a sign to cheer on your classmates. Take a picture and send it to me so I can create a picture collage of our class.

Today's CHES Spirit Day is "Welcome Wednesday" - Welcome a new classmate to your Digital Learning time. Choose a favorite stuffed animal, or a pet, and show them what you're working on.
Today is April Fool's Day. Your challenge is to prank someone in your home. Be creative. Let's put a positive spin on it to make everyone smile. Ask a family member to tell you their least favorite chore, then do that chore for them. Go HERE to post a video of your April Fool's trick.
I've been getting a lot of questions about what to do with all the work you are doing. If you want me to check it, you are welcome to take a picture of it and email it to me. You can keep it in your folder to bring to me when we return to school.

Today's CHES spirit day is "SpArt Thursday." Count all the signs of Spring in Spanish and create a piece of art showing Spring with sidewalk chalk.
Reminder: There is more to school and learning than doing work at a desk or a seat. During our regular school day, you are not sitting at your desk working for 7 hours. You have specials, center time, lunch, recess and you are picked up, packed up and stacked up by 2:00 then listen to a Magic Tree House book. The weather is supposed to be nice today. Take some time to go outside and have FUN! Take a book outside to read in the sunshine. Be creative. Build something. Make an obstacle course in your backyard.
Help your parents out. Make sure you make your bed. And do something special for your brother or sister that will make them smile.
I love you all and miss you so much!

Last night I sent out an email with the 1st Grade Digital Learning Plan for this week. I am also adding it below. If you haven't recorded in the FlipGrid from Friday, please take a moment to do so. I so enjoy seeing and hearing you.
Today is Cheatham Hill Musical Monday. HERE is a FlipGrid where you can record a 3 minute video of you making music. I am not too good at making videos of myself, but I'm going to see if Dawson and Allen can help me make a music video sometime today.
Mrs. Hooper and I are working on scheduling a "Zoom" video class meeting. I will be sending out an email with the meeting information later.
Remember to have fun learning today. Remember that fun can get messy as long as you clean up after yourself.
Help your parents make lunch today. After lunch clean up the kitchen so they can take a nap.
Remember I LOVE getting your pictures of all the creative things you are doing.

Friday, March 20, 2020 THANK GOODNESS IT'S FRIDAY!
I have missed seeing you all this week. SO! I have created "FlipGrid" for us to say "hi" to each other. Go HERE to get to your assignment. To login you use your long computer number. It's a secure site that only we can see. Once you are logged in scroll down to the big GREEN Plus sign. Then you can make a recording of yourself to share with all of us. You click on the camera to record. You only have 90 seconds to say "hey" and tell us something about your week. Then click on "Next." Watch your video, then click "Next" again. Take a selfie, and click "Next" one last time. Finally click "Submit Video." Have Fun!
A Lesson from Mrs. Hooper
Watch HERE to see a video of Mrs. Hooper reading What if You had Animal Ears by Sandra Markle.
Below is a sheet you can print and complete. You can also make animal ears and have someone take a picture of you wearing them.
Now take your family on a bike ride. Then ask your parents for an old pair of socks. Put them on your hands and dust the house.
Remember to email your pictures to me. I love seeing what you are doing. To see what your friends have been doing go to the "Photos" tab at the top of this page

Whew! We've made it to day 4. IT'S GAME DAY!! Play a board game with your family.
I never got the chance to finish reading Magic Tree House: Lions at Lunchtime by Mary Pope Osborne.
Watch HERE for an interview with the author.
We can't leave Jack and Annie lost in the book traveling through space and time. Watch HERE to watch a video of a dad reading it. Create your own board game using events and facts from the book (or any book you've read). Play the game with your family.
In the book you will learn about the size of a Giraffe's foot. To help you make the connection, learn the proper way to set a table and set the table for a family meal. (There's a picture below to help you.)
AND Do your parents a favor by cleaning up your room without them telling you to.
I LOVE seeing your pictures and videos. Keep sending them. Tomorrow I have a special plan for you.

It's only day 3, and I miss you all so very much!!! Mrs. Hooper wrote this lesson for you all.
Good morning,
I hope you all are having a good week so far. I thought these mini lessons would be good reminders of proper hygiene and things to do in order to stay healthy and free of germs.
· Mini-Lesson: How does hand sanitizer kill germs?
· Mini-Lesson: How do germs get inside your body?
Activity:
Hand washing is always important, but it’s especially important now. Since proper hand washing is one of the best ways to stop the spread of disease, the sooner you can develop the habit of thorough hand washing the better.
- The picture below is a hand washing song to “Row Your Boat”. Try it while washing your hands for 20 seconds.
- Feeling creative! Make your own hand washing song to a tune you like and send it to me. ([email protected])

Happy St. Patrick's Day
Friday was such a whirlwind, I didn't think to grab my book box of read alouds. So here are videos of some of the books I would have been reading. What can you tell someone else about the book? Characters, Setting, Beginning, Middle, Ending, Your favorite part. Draw a picture
That's What Leprechauns Do by Eve Bunting
The Luckiest St Patrick's Day Ever by Teddy Slater
There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover by Lucille Colandro
Jack and the Leprechaun by Ivan Robertson
The Leprechauns Gold by Pamela Duncan Edwards
Let's have more St. Patrick's Day fun.
Dress up like a leprechaun.
Go outside and look for a 4 leaf clover. Make a bookmark out of it, by ironing it between two pieces of wax paper.
Go outside and build a home for a leprechaun.
Remember, I love getting pictures. I'll be posting them soon.
I LOVE you all and miss you VERY much!

Welcome to Digital Learning
I hope you had a fabulous weekend. I spent some time trying to wrap my head around digital learning and not getting to see you all. I’m not a big fan of kids spending their time using technology so this is pulling me out of my comfort zone. I am also regretting not having the keyboard on my laptop fixed. (My space bar doesn’t like me.)
But! Here we are diving into digital learning. My goal is to try to make learning meaningful and fun. Check this site daily. I’ll use it as the platform for posting daily activities. As we go, take pictures and email them to me. I’ll get them posted on the website. Education Galaxy is a great learning forum. As you work through a skill, it will get harder. I can log-in and see how you are doing and change your assignments as needed.
Also I will be adding more website links to my class dashboard on clever.com. When you get to the Clever site, click on “Log in as a student” at the top right hand corner. Then click on “Use Badge log in” and use the QR code I sent home. If you don’t have one, I will email it to you.
Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day. We’ve got to get prepared!
Check out this week’s Mystery Science: https://mysteryscience.com/trending/mystery-5/light-color/209?code=OTc1Nzkx&mdemail=Roxanne.spinks%40cobbk12.org&nopopup=true&s=md%3Arainbow-activity&t=student
And these videos of read alouds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoOlo5AX_oI

Now that you’ve done your research, you are ready to create a Leprechaun Trap. Look around your house for materials you can recycle. Things like toilet paper or paper towel tubes, and empty boxes. Remember to take pictures and email it to me.

We welcome Mrs. Hooper to our class. She is a student teacher who is in her last semester at Phoenix University. She will be with us until May 5. We are very excited to have her. We welcomed her with a poster that has a note and a picture of each of us. To help us get to know her, we asked her all kinds of questions. We determined that she is at least 19 since she is in college. We also learned that she has four children of her own. We were amazed that her oldest daughter who is 22, is older than she is. We wish her lots of luck and look forward to what she is going to teach us.

Today was our first STEAM rotation. Thank you so very much to everyone who sent in supplies. A big thank you to all the volunteers who came to run stations for us. This was the best first rotation I've ever had. Every thing ran so smoothly. The students had a great time. LOTS of pictures have been added. Be sure to check them out.

So I open up my dashboard to post today and realize I never published my September update. I am so very sorry. My goal is to be much better this year. I did get a lot of pictures uploaded so be sure to check them out.
Conference Week is quickly approaching. I find it so hard to believe the first quarter is almost over. This school year is flying by. "Time flies when you're having fun!" Letters with your conference times will be going home tomorrow. This year over half my class has a sibling at our school. Teachers do our best to schedule siblings close together, so hopefully the times will work. Please get the forms back to me as soon as possible, especially if you need a change.
Over fall break several students made a windsock. This was an optional project as an extension of what we are learning in class. Today I recognized those who turned one in. This had several more students asking if they can still do the project. OF COURSE! If anyone is missing the directions, I am attaching a copy below.
Our class t-shirts came in today. They are so pretty!! Of course that is MY opinion. As a mom I never could remember to have it washed when my kids needed it, so as a teacher I keep them and wash them for you. This also lets us wear them anytime the mood calls for it.
Mark your calendar:
Saturday, October 5 is the Cheatham Hill Fall Festival
Thursday, October 10 is an Early Release Day
Friday, October 11 is Picture Retake Day for those who want a redo and for those who were absent on August 14.
Monday, October 14 - Friday, October 18 is conference week. Early Release every day that week.
Monday, October 21 - Friday, October 25 is Red Ribbon Week.
Wednesday, October 23 - First Grade Field Trip to Sparkles Skating Rink to learn about Light and Sound

We have had an amazing start to this school year. We are quickly learning the routines and procedures of our classroom. We are making lots of friends. Please remember to send in any forms that have come home. I am missing just a few from 1 or 2 folks. I also am very interested in reading your "Parent Homework" to help me get to know your child more quickly. Thank you, thank you to those who have already emailed me.
If you send me an email and I don't respond within 24 hours, please reach out to me. There is a good chance it has gotten lost in my SPAM.
